What the 1st house covers
The 1st house begins at the ascendant, the degree rising on the eastern horizon at the moment of birth. It is you: your body, your health and vitality, your appearance, your temperament, and the general direction your life takes.
It is the only house that counts as both a kendra (a pillar of the chart) and a trikona (a house of fortune), so its condition colours everything else. A strong 1st house and a well-placed lagna lord give the resilience to make use of whatever the rest of the chart promises.
