Doshas in Vedic Astrology
A dosha is an affliction: a placement the texts say causes difficulty. Doshas cause more worry than anything else in astrology, and most of that worry is unnecessary. Most doshas come with cancellations in the same texts, and in a large share of charts one of them applies.
Each page below gives the exact rule, where it comes from, everything that cancels it, and how often it is genuinely in effect rather than merely present.
- Mangal DoshaMars in a house of marriage. The core rule is classical; most extensions and cancellations are later.Present in 88.7% of charts, cancelled in 46.4%
- Kaal Sarp DoshaEvery planet on one side of the Rahu–Ketu axis. A modern pattern the classics never mention.Present in 16.0% of charts
- Kemadruma YogaA Moon with no planet on either side, common in form but almost always cancelled.Present in 44.9% of charts, cancelled in 44.0%
- Shakata YogaThe Moon in the 6th, 8th or 12th from Jupiter: fortune that turns like a cart-wheel.Present in 25.8% of charts, cancelled in 8.8%
- Daridra YogaThe lord of gains in a house of loss, common in form but usually cancelled.Present in 24.0% of charts, cancelled in 23.6%
