How it forms
The Moon sits in the 6th, 8th or 12th sign counted from Jupiter. Shakata means a cart, and the yoga describes fortune that rises and falls like a turning wheel.
What it means
In effect. Fortune turns like a cart-wheel: good years and lean years alternate. Keeping reserves for the lean periods lets you ride the cycle.
Cancelled. The cart-wheel swing of fortune is steadied: ups and downs still come, but they settle rather than repeat.
What cancels it
Any one of these in the chart cancels it, and the reading says which one applied:
- The Moon is in a kendra (1st, 4th, 7th or 10th house) from the ascendantClassical
How common is it?
We cast 20,000 charts with this site's engine, for random birth times and places between 1940 and 2010, and counted. Shakata Yoga appeared in 25.8% of them: about one chart in four. In 8.8% it was cancelled by another factor in the chart, and it stood at full strength in only 16.9%.
A rule that appears in about one chart in four cannot mark anyone out on its own. What matters is its strength, and whether anything in the chart cancels it, which is why the engine grades each one rather than simply reporting it.
