How it forms
No planet other than the Sun and the nodes sits in the 2nd or 12th sign from the Moon, so the Moon has nothing on either side. It is the opposite of Sunapha, Anapha and Durdhara.
The strict form adds that nothing joins the Moon or stands in a kendra from it. The engine also notes what intensifies it: a Moon near new moon, a Moon in the 6th, 8th or 12th house, or a malefic aspecting or joining the Moon.
What it means
In effect. The mind lacks a supporting context. You may feel you must do everything alone, face recurring financial insecurity, or find help vanishing when it is needed. The classics describe poverty and dependence; a balanced reading is that you must deliberately build the support others take for granted, and the self-reliance you learn becomes a strength.
Cancelled. An early unsupported phase gives way to allies and stability, which many astrologers read as a sign of resilience.
What cancels it
Any one of these in the chart cancels it, and the reading says which one applied:
- One of the five true planets is in a kendra from the ascendantLater classical
- One of them is in a kendra from the MoonLater classical
- One of them joins the MoonLater classical
- The Moon is in a kendra and aspected by JupiterLater classical
- Venus is in a kendra and aspected by JupiterLater classical
What weakens it
Each of these makes the dosha weaker without removing it. The tag says how established the rule is.
- A strong benefic aspects the MoonModern
- The Moon is exalted, in its own sign or near fullModern
- The Moon is strong in the navamsaModern
How common is it?
We cast 20,000 charts with this site's engine, for random birth times and places between 1940 and 2010, and counted. Kemadruma Yoga appeared in 44.9% of them: about one chart in two. In 44.0% it was cancelled by another factor in the chart, and it stood at full strength in only 0.46%.
In its strict form, with nothing joining the Moon or in a kendra from it, it appeared in 4.1%.
A rule that appears in about one chart in two cannot mark anyone out on its own. What matters is its strength, and whether anything in the chart cancels it, which is why the engine grades each one rather than simply reporting it.
