What are divisional charts?

A divisional chart, or varga, divides every sign into equal parts and maps each part to a sign of its own, giving a second chart that magnifies one area of life: the D9 for marriage, the D10 for career, the D7 for children, the D12 for parents. Parashara describes sixteen of them. What each one shows.

The finer the chart, the more exact the time

The ascendant moves about one sign every two hours, so the ascendant of a D60 changes every two minutes or so. Treat the finest charts as reliable only if your birth time has been checked against events in your life.

How this calculator works

Planetary positions come from the Swiss Ephemeris, the reference used by professional astrology software, converted to the sidereal zodiac with the Lahiri (Chitrapaksha) ayanamsa, the standard in India and Nepal.

Your birth time is converted using the timezone history of your birthplace, including old offsets such as Nepal's +05:30 before 1986 and wartime clock changes. Getting that wrong shifts every position, and generic calculators often do. The chart is calculated in your browser: your birth date and time are never sent to us, and the place search sends only the town name you type.
