How it forms

The lord of the 5th house and the lord of the 6th, two different planets, sit in kendras from each other: the 1st, 4th, 7th or 10th sign counted from one to the other.

The lord of the ascendant must also be strong, read as its Shadbala reaching the BPHS minimum. The yoga is named after the conch shell (shankha), a symbol of auspiciousness.

What it gives

Humane and good-hearted, with a happy family life and a long, full life.

How common is it?

We cast 20,000 charts with this site's engine, for random birth times and places between 1940 and 2010, and counted. Shankha Yoga appeared in 26.6% of them: about one chart in four. It held in full, with none of its weakening conditions, in 26.6%.

A rule that appears in about one chart in four cannot mark anyone out on its own. What matters is its strength, and whether anything in the chart cancels it, which is why the engine grades each one rather than simply reporting it.
