D2 Hora Chart in Vedic Astrology

The Hora splits each sign into two halves of 15°, one belonging to the Sun and one to the Moon. It is read for wealth: how much a person accumulates and how readily it sustains them.

Because every planet lands in only Leo or Cancer, the Hora is read differently from the other vargas. Astrologers look at which planets fall in the Sun’s hora (effort, self-made wealth) and which in the Moon’s (wealth that comes through others, or through care and nourishment).

The D2 is one of the seven vargas whose dignities are summed into Saptavargaja bala, part of a planet's Shadbala strength.

Each sign of 30° is divided into 2 equal parts of 15°00′. In an odd sign the first 15° is the Sun’s hora (Leo) and the second the Moon’s (Cancer). In an even sign the order reverses.

For example, a planet at 17°24′ Taurus falls in part 2 of 2, which puts it in Leo in the D2.

The ascendant moves through the whole zodiac in a day, about one sign every two hours, so the finer the division, the sooner its ascendant changes. For the D2 that is about every 60 minutes on average. A birth time recorded to the nearest few minutes is usually enough. The planets move far more slowly, so their D2 signs are reliable even when the ascendant is not, the Moon excepted in the finest charts.
