The story of Revati
Revati belongs to Pushan, the god who guards travellers and herds and finds what is lost. Its symbol is a fish, or a drum. It is the last nakshatra, the end of the journey, and Pushan guides souls safely across.
Revati as your birth nakshatra
Your janma (birth) nakshatra is the one the Moon occupied when you were born. It is read as the clearest picture of the mind and temperament. When the Moon is in Revati:
Gentle and nurturing, you guide others through transitions: journeys, endings and new beginnings. Compassion and imagination are your gifts.
Revati gives kindness, imagination and a protective nature. These people are gentle and helpful, especially to the weak, the young and animals. They are creative and intuitive, and they help others through transitions. They can be too trusting.
Strengths
- Kindness
- Imagination
- Protectiveness
- Intuition
Challenges
- Naivety
- Over-sensitivity
- Escapism
The nakshatra is one layer of a chart. The sign the Moon is in, the planets aspecting it and the rest of the chart all change how these traits show.
Career and work
Travel and transport, care of children or animals, the arts, healing, and spiritual work.
Love and relationships
Gentle, romantic and devoted. They need a partner who is kind and protects their sensitivity.
The four padas of Revati
Each nakshatra is divided into four padas (quarters) of 3°20′. Each pada falls in a navamsa sign, which colours the nakshatra with that sign's temperament. This is why two people born in the same nakshatra can read quite differently.
Pada 1 · Pisces 16°40′ – Pisces 20°00′
Navamsa in Sagittarius
The Sagittarius navamsa adds a tone that is optimistic, principled and far-seeing; drawn to learning, travel and meaning.
Name syllable: De (दे)
Pada 2 · Pisces 20°00′ – Pisces 23°20′
Navamsa in Capricorn
The Capricorn navamsa adds a tone that is disciplined, ambitious and patient; climbs by responsibility and endurance.
Name syllable: Do (दो)
Pada 3 · Pisces 23°20′ – Pisces 26°40′
Navamsa in Aquarius
The Aquarius navamsa adds a tone that is independent, idealistic and inventive; thinks in terms of the group and the future.
Name syllable: Cha (चा)
Pada 4 · Pisces 26°40′ – Pisces 30°00′
Navamsa in Piscesvargottama
The Pisces navamsa adds a tone that is compassionate, imaginative and receptive; finds strength in faith and surrender. Rashi and navamsa agree here, which the classics treat as a mark of strength for a planet placed in this pada. This pada is gandanta, the knot where a water sign meets a fire sign. A Moon here is traditionally given a remedial ritual (shanti) after birth.
Name syllable: Chi (ची)
Baby names for Revati nakshatra
In the naming tradition (namakarana) followed across India and Nepal, a child's name begins with the syllable of the pada the Moon occupied at birth. For Revati the four syllables are:
| Pada | Syllable | Devanagari |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | De | दे |
| 2 | Do | दो |
| 3 | Cha | चा |
| 4 | Chi | ची |
You need the pada, not just the nakshatra, so the birth time matters. A few panchangs differ by a syllable, so families often follow the one their priest uses. Find the nakshatra and pada for a birth.
Revati nakshatra marriage matching
The average guna milan score between Revati and each other nakshatra, taken over every Moon position in both and counted either way round. A real match depends on the exact padas and on who is the bride, so use these as a guide and check the exact pair.

Ruling planet and dasha
The Vimshottari dasha, the most widely used timing system in Vedic astrology, starts from the Moon's nakshatra. If you were born with the Moon in Revati, your first mahadasha is Mercury's, which lasts 17 years in full. Only the part the Moon had not yet travelled through Revati remains at birth: a Moon early in the nakshatra leaves most of the period to run, and a Moon near its end leaves little.
Calculate your own dasha periods with exact dates, down to the prana dasha.
Gana, yoni and nature
Deva gana, the "divine" temperament: gentle, idealistic and generous by nature.
Its yoni, the animal that stands for a nakshatra's instinctive nature, is the elephant. Both gana and yoni are among the eight factors (kootas) compared in traditional kundli matching. Revati shares the elephant yoni with Bharani, the best yoni match. Its sworn enemy is the lion, the yoni of Dhanishta and Purva Bhadrapada, which scores no yoni points in matching.
In muhurta, the choosing of auspicious times, Revati is classed as soft (mridu): favoured for the arts, friendship, romance, music and adornment.
